Broke in Brooklyn

This was a blog designed to document my time in New York. It ended abruptly when my household didn't have internet for a week and a half. :/

Intern Bowling

About two weeks ago (I know its late! We didn't have internet the past week and a half!) the company I work for hosted a Internship Bowling Night! It was a fun way to get to know people and not actually bowl.  I almost got a strike once, but mostly I spent my time eating mini pizzas.

This photo looks pretty awkward. My favorite part is the girl to my left. She just HAD to get her "super cute" cocktail in the photo. Also, note how tired I look. New York has a fantastic ability to melt of all my makeup and suck all my energy with the heat!

 After we all ate ourselves silly with finger food, we decided it was best to go hunt down desserts. In New York, I am able to convince myself that I am ALLOWED to eat more, because I walk so much. Great thinking right?

The High Line

Last Monday, my friends from church invited me to go to the High Line. It is a park that is built on a bridge, and it is so beautiful. That night there was a Mexican dancing festival of sorts, and while I didn't show up in time to dance, I did show up in time to grab some Mexican food. The lack of burritos in New York is very upsetting

Om nom nom. But honestly, as delicious as these were, I was seriously missing the Taco Shop.

I think I should start to make an album of "The empire state building from various places in New York" . I don't know why I get so excited every time I see it.

The park is kind of just a long pretty walkway. Its very relaxing, and there are a ton of places to sit and  enjoy the city lights. 

These are the missionaries from my ward. They are SO wonderful.

Rooftops

I've been running around New York, A LOT! A majority of my time is spend getting from place to place on the subway (but I don't get lost as often anymore!).  This past week alone, I've left my house at 8 am or earlier and haven't made it home before 10:30. This proved to cause some concern as I missed all of Cole's calls last night, because as soon as I got home I promptly fell asleep and didn't move until 3 am. 

That being said, I am having WAAAAYYY too much fun. Here are a collection of images from last week.

Below are images from a animation show I went to. Rooftop Films is an organization that shows "underground" films on rooftops around New York. Its super hipster, super cool and very interesting. This series was held on top of  a high school. I couldn't get over how COOL the roof of this high school was. here are a selection of the AMAZING artwork the covered every inch of the walls.

Korean Food

Last night my friend Kevin and I went out to dinner! We ate at some Korean restaurant. I don't know what it was called but it was surrounded by about 50 other Korean BBQ restaurants. I had eaten Korean food once before with Cole and it was one of the more stressful dinners I have had, next to the melting pot. It was only stressful because I had no idea what was going on, and the waiter wasn't helpful in explaining the menu. BUT, it was so delicious! 

So this time around was much more successful, as Kevin explained to me what was going on. Like, why they bring out all these little dishes and what all the little dishes are. He also told me what the menu was all about, so I felt less concerned about my dinner decision.

So from left to right, top to bottom,  fish something or other, bean sprouts, spicy onion thing. delicious squash, seaweed, seaweed. At least that's what I remember.  Oh, and there is also water and miso soup!

Left: Some sort of spicy dish, I wasn't bold enough to try it. Right: My Dinner! rice topped with cucumber, meat, egg, carrots and other tasty things. There was some sort of jelly block in there and I made Kevin eat it. He said it tasted like nothing.

It was a lovely dinner, and just as delicious as I remembered. It was fun catching up and learning about what Kevin is up to. He works on organizing kids summer camps, how fun! The only terrible part of the evening was that it was POURING rain when we got out, so we ran to the subway, trying to not get too wet!

First Day on the Job.

Last Monday was my first working day at LFUSA. It was filled with mostly "This is the company", "This is the dress code". "These are the companies we work with" and get to know you games. There was a fancy man running around taking photos from the day. So, here are very nice quality photos that you will probably never see on this blog again. Or anytime soon.

It may look like I'm texting, but I promise I'm not. I'm playing on an Ipad.

This lady is in charge of the Rachel Zoe Brand, A long with Rachel Zoe. She spoke about some of there initiatives coming up with Rachel Zoe and what is is like working with a licensed brand. 

So this is my name badge. You may be wondering why I look ridiculous. Well, during the semester we had to send in an "About Me" page. The page included favorite band, food, designer etc. We were told to make it fun and interesting. We were also asked to include a picture of ourselves. I was quite unaware that this picture would also be on the name badge. So, I decided to put in a "Fun" picture, to make my bio more interesting, and consequently, my badge now looks like silly. 

Overall the first day was just as awkward as any first day but I did meet some nice people who's names i don't remember. Typical. Until next time!

LFUSA!

Today I want to talk about the company I am working for, LI & FUNG!

 LI & FUNG is a company over 100 years old. It is located in more than 40 countries with over 7,700 customers and more than 25,000 employees. I actually work in the US division, known as LF USA. LF USA is comprised of 4 divisions: Women's, Men's and Kid's, Accessories & Home and Footwear.

You may have wondered why you have never heard of them, especially since they are quite large. It is because their "customers" are retailers. They work with Macy's, JCP, QVC, Walmart, Target, Khols, and a number of others. LF USA works in private brands, licensing  and it owns a few brands which it sells to its customers. Private brands are those sold exclusively at one retailer, like Xhilaration for Target. When a brand is licensed, LF USA pays a fee to design and manufacture under that name, Rachel Zoe's name is licenced and she approves all designs. They also own their own brands like Frye Boots.
LF USA is a middle man of sorts, allowing companies to expand their brands with LF USA's experience as well as connections with manufacturers

My role within the company is in better handbag sales. The brands I work with include:

They are basically Mom bags.They sell some of them on QVC, so if you want a demonstration of how awesome they are, you can check it out. I also work a little with two smaller but more fancy brands: Johnathan Adler and Rachel Zoe. I think my favorite part of my internship so far is looking around the show rooms. They are so fancy.
